The paintings here in the CityLife Gallery are bold, serious, statement pieces mostly on large scale. Elizabeth starts each painting first thinking of the subject and then lays down the background. Choosing carefully the colours to reflect the chosen subject whether it be nature or figurative. Each painting can have layers of paint built up in her fluid style, sometimes layered with resin until she gets the desired effect. Then the subject is painted on top of the beautiful background which on it’s own is a beautiful piece. Each subject is painted using many methods, brushes, pouring or manipulating with very thin pieces of wood. She captures the movement of a wing, the swish of a fin or the fold of a garment so the viewer can feel this too. Once completed, the whole painting is coated in a layer of resin bringing out the depth and colour of each piece giving it an almost three dimensional look.
